The Book II Course is divided into 8 Stages, or chapters, representing Stages 13 to 20 of the Cambridge Latin Course. Certificated assessment is available at the end of Stages 16 and 20. The assessment is certificated by the University of Cambridge.

The assessment in each case evaluates your understanding of both the language and the civilisation elements of the course. You are asked to answer comprehension questions on a passage of Latin similar in difficulty to that of the stories in Stages 16 or 20, as appropriate, and you are also tested on the cultural topics covered in the course. The Stage 16 test assesses your knowledge of cultural information in Stages 13 to 16 (Roman Britain) and the Stage 20 test assesses your knowledge of the cultural information in Stages 17 to 20 (Roman Egypt).

The assessment tests are emailed or posted to you by your e-tutor and we trust you to complete them in exam conditions. Your e-tutor will mark your scripts and we will send you a certificate if you pass the assessment.

The Cambridge Latin Course leads to GCSE qualification and by the end of the Book II Course you will be about half-way to GCSE level. For further details of progression to GCSE, please see the Qualifications area of the website.
