All courses prepare students for OCR examinations, but you are welcome to take the courses for self-fulfilment, without intending to sit the exam. Please note, prospective Independent Learners for the AS Latin components should have completed CLC Books IV and V, or the equivalent. There is no pre-requisite for the AS Classical Civilisation components.

AS Latin - examination summer 2018

This course is comprised of two components which can be taken individually or together.

  • Latin Language
  • Latin Literature

Students may enrol on just one component per year or over two years. As the syllabus for literature changes every two years, students should make sure that they enroll on the course for the syllabus of the year in which they wish to take the exam.

AS Classical Civilisation

Coming in Autumn 2018.

This course is comprised of two components which can be taken individually or together.

  • The World of the Hero (Homer's Odyssey; Virgil's Aeneid)
  • Greek Theater

Students may enrol on just one component per year or over two years.

Thinking of progressing to A-Level

Bear in mind that for a complete A level qualification, a student needs to pass two components as AS level and two components at A-Level. All examinations in all four components must be taken in the same year. (Please see the A-Level section of this website for information on our A-Level courses or contact the Independent Learners Manager for details.) The AS will be a standalone qualification in its own right and no longer counts towards the A-Level qualification.
